Delays on trains after track circuit failure

THERE are major delays and cancellations into and out of Southampton, affecting the service towards Portsmouth, due to an electrical fault.

South West Trains say the disruption is likely to continue until 1pm today.

An electrical supply problem at Southampton Central railway station has affected all lines. There are delays of up to 40 minutes and timetables are being revised at short notice.

In a statement South West Trains said: ‘All lines at Southampton are blocked to electric trains owing to a complete loss of traction current required for trains to move.

‘Some diesel trains operated by First Great Western, CrossCountry and by South West Trains will operate where possible.’

Replacement transport has been arranged and will operate between Fareham and Southampton Central and Eastleigh and Southampton Central.

South West Trains, Southern, CrossCountry and First Great Western tickets can be used on all four services in the area.

Customers may use any operator’s services to complete their journey.
