The kind-hearted team of 12, who all work at electricity company SSE in Havant, began their ride across the country starting from Perth, Scotland yesterday.

All the money raised from their epic cycle will go towards charity, Sam’s Haven, so it can buy a mobile home caravan on a holiday park.

Even though the weather forecast for this week has predicted rough conditions, the team, led by Mark Rowlands, is determined to raise thousands for the cause.

Mr Rowlands said: ‘The reason I’m doing this is because I want to help them pay off that caravan as much as possible so that they can concentrate on keeping the charity going.

‘I’ve been in contact with Sam’s Haven before, so as soon as I wanted to do this, I contacted them straight way.’

The cyclists will travel the length of the country without stopping and arriving at the Langstone Hotel on Hayling Island at 4pm tomorrow, where they will be greeted by people from the charity.

The cyclists did not have to pay a joining fee but they have spent their free time fundraising for the event’s expenses through car washes and car boot sales.

The ambitious team are on target to raise £5,000 however the event will conclude with a further fundraiser at the hotel on Friday evening where there will be a dinner and a dance.

Mr Rowlands said: ‘It’s going really well so far apart from the fact that it has been very windy and wet’

The team set off in Perth at 8am and have taken it in turns to cycle through Scotland.
