The Blue Bell in South Street, Emsworth, has joined The News’ campaign to get rid of single-use plastics in the region.

The pub, which is also part of the Final Straw Emsworth group, has not only taken a stand against plastic straws, but brought in a number of initiatives to encourage customers to think about their plastic waste.

So far, the schemes have been a success and landlord Giles Babb says that small changes can make a big difference to the environment.

He said: ‘I think everybody can do something to fight against plastic waste without changing their lifestyle.

‘Just making little changes can really help to raise awareness as well as showing how big a problem single-use plastics have become.’

As well as getting rid of plastic straws, The Blue Bell has also made changes to deliveries and cups.

Giles said: ‘We do everything we can to reduce the amount of waste we produce.

‘When it comes to our deliveries, everything now arrives without the plastic bags.

‘We have also switched to fully compostable cups – these are all changes that can help make a difference.

‘A lot of our customers have been really excited about the changes. Some people won’t necessarily think about the impact a plastic straw has on the environment, but it has recently become a much more relevant issue.

‘The more people talk about it, the easier it will be to tackle it.

‘There’s always more to do and it is important to think about every aspect of what you do, so that you can cut down on as much plastic waste as possible.’
