THE Friends of Highland Road Cemetery in Portsmouth will hold an open day at the cemetery’s Thomas Ellis Owen chapel.

The event takes place on Sunday from midday to 4pm.

Visitors will learn about more than 250 people buried at the cemetery, including a Titanic survivor, Victoria Cross holders, and people connected to Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, and Arthur Conan Doyle.

The Friends promise tales of the rich and famous, murders, heroes, a Pompey captain and a soldier who featured on a Most Haunted programme.

A tour begins at 2pm, and costs £3 per person. For information, go to friendsofhighlandroadcemetery.org.uk, or e-mail fohrc@hotmail.co.uk
