GOSPORT’S community spirit has been reignited with the request by the mayor of Gosport, Councillor Lynn Hook, to involve organisations and individuals in a huge music event.

On Saturday, September 17, Walpole Park Music Madness and Family Fun Day will see hundreds of people enjoy a great day out.

The event is in support of the mayor’s 2016/2017 chosen charities – the good causes which she has been supporting throughout her mayoral year.

They are Street Pastors, Kitbags & Berets, who do exceptional work for veterans suffering with Alzheimer’s, and Marvels & Meltdowns, in support of children who have ADHD and autistic spectrum conditions.

Rotarian Malcolm Dent was approached by Cllr Hook and, together with a few local people with different skills, ideas and background – including myself – the suggestion and idea of Walpole Park Music Madness and Family Fun Day has emerged.

Individuals have volunteered and groups have willingly donated their time and services.

There are 10 acts scheduled to appear.

The climax of the event will see the very popular, and recently reformed, Big Brother Soul. They will be on at 9pm.

In order for the event to happen various individuals, companies and public houses were approached and have provided their financial support, each sponsoring an act.

Their generosity has enabled the event to take place.

Jan Bloor, owner of Elle J Ltd Hair & Beauty of Privett Road said: ‘When I was approached to be a sponsor of one of the acts I felt duty-bound to help and support a very worthy cause.
