JOBSEEKERS who have recently left the armed forces have been offered a helping hand.

The Royal Navy is to hold an employment fair at Portsmouth Naval Base today and the event is being supported by Hampshire County Council.

It follows the success of the employment fair in Farnborough in March, organised by the Hampshire Economic Military Partnership, and partly funded by Hampshire County Council and the Career Transition Partnership.

Around 1,500 service personnel and 100 employers were at the event and 42 jobs were filled by service leavers as a direct result of the fair.

Councillor Raymond Ellis said: ‘The county council is committed to working with its partners in the military to support people leaving the armed forces and their families.

‘These service leavers have a wide range of skills which will contribute to the strength of the county’s economy.’

The fair runs from 10am to 3pm in the Victory Club, HMS Nelson. Call (023) 9272 4595.
