WANTING to show off their ‘hidden gem’, a group of residents have organised an open day.
The residents, who live at Royal Clarence Yard, off Weevil Lane in Gosport, have spent the last eight weeks organising the fun day.
It’s hoped that it will encourage more visitors to the area, which has a number of businesses as well as views of HMS Victory and other historic landmarks in Portsmouth.
During the open day, on June 14, there will be stalls, sailing taster sessions, children’s games, a hog roast and other refreshments.
The Old Bakery is being opened for the day and will house a historical exhibit, the Gosport Society and activities for small children.
And for on-site resident Philippa Dickinson, who helped organise the day, the event is about providing some fun and bringing the community together. She said: ‘I’m really looking forward to the event because it will be great seeing the space used and families having fun.
‘We have got so much going on for everyone and this space is great and we want to utilise it more.
‘It is a hidden gem that we want to share with more people.
‘We are within walking distance of Priddy’s Hard and the town centre and parking is free.
‘Plus we have spectacular views of historic Portsmouth.’
The idea of the open day was thought up last year but plans to put it into place started around eight weeks ago.
Philippa added: ‘Last year, an event was held here at Royal Clarence Yard and it was great.
‘So rather than wait for another outside group to organise something, I and other residents decided to hold something ourselves.
‘We started planning about eight weeks ago so things have happened rather quickly but we are all excited.
‘The day is just about the Royal Clarence Yard community getting together to have a jolly afternoon on the waterfront and invite all our friends and neighbours.’
Royal Clarence Yard is home to international businesses such as Clipper Ventures and Iron Denim.
But it also houses local businesses such as Unit 10 Hair and Absolute Running.
The open day is from midday to 4pm.
