Excitement builds up for town's Santa sleigh run
FATHER Christmas is making last-minute preparations to begin his tour around Gosport this weekend.
Volunteers from Gosport Rotary Club have once again pulled out all the stops to make the Gosport Sleigh Run a magical experience for children across the town.
It begins on Saturday and will take in as many roads as possible over the following two weeks.
For those wanting to track Father Christmas’ progress, information will be available on GPS through a dedicated telephone line.
Colin Davey, from Gosport Rotary, said: ‘It is such a magical experience for the children. We pull up in the road and the children can get on the sleigh, have a chat with Father Christmas and we give them some sweets.
‘Our biggest problem is that it’s so popular. We have children queuing up so it takes us a while to get round.
‘That’s why this year we are embracing technology and parents can track the sleigh using GPS. All they have to do is call our number and they will receive a text back with the GPS link.’
The number to call on the day for the GPS link is 07564 814288.
Volunteers from Gosport Rotary Club have been organising the sleigh run every year for more than two decades.
It begins in Fort Brockhurst car park on Saturday at 5pm and will go to as many of the following streets as possible before 8pm – Gunners Way, Elson Road, Brighton Avenue, Eastbourne Avenue, Worthing Avenue, Elson Road, Selsey Avenue, Elson Lane, Frater Lane, Anthony Grove, Richard Grove, Orchard Grove, Parker Close, Ham Lane, Stanley Close, Nash Drive and Chestnut Walk.
Sunday night starts at the junction of Chantry Road and Brockhurst Road at 5pm before heading to Sedgeley Grove, Rydall Road, Bramber Road, Palmyra Road, Melville Road, Avery Lane, Rothesey Road, Vale Grove, Shalbourne Road, Heaton Road, Netherton Road, Holmedale Road, Kingsley Road, The Shrubbury and Heaton Road.
