Face of Nelson
I was recently given access to the wardroom of HMS Nelson, Queen Street, Portsea, and this is one of the artefacts I photographed.
It was initially believed to be Nelson’s death mask, but was later confirmed to have been made in 1800 when he was homeward bound from the Mediterranean.
This is a copy of the original which is in the Royal Naval Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
