Families enjoy demonstrations at Hayling Island 999 Day
A SMASHED car, a boat on fire and explosives in the Solent made for an exciting day out.
Hayling Island’s 999 Day was filled with demonstrations as families learnt about the different emergency services that operate in the area. Different to previous years the event, on Sunday, had a variety of displays from the fire service cutting a roof off a car to the coastguard boats and helicopters putting out a fire on a vessel. Held at Beachlands, the day also had emergency vehicles for children to look around.
Richard Coates, from Hayling Island Community Responders, which organised the event, said: ‘We wanted lots of displays to show the kids what the emergency services actually do.’
