FAMILIES headed to Goodwood to enjoy a day’s racing with The News.
The fifth race meeting of the season took place yesterday at the racecourse, near Chichester.
Johnston Press, owners of The News, teamed up with Goodwood to put on a day of family fun with racing, games and workshops.
Sue O’Donoghue was the theatrical co-ordinator for the event.
She arranged for more than 20 performers to work all day putting smiles on the faces of youngsters and their parents.
‘We have had a great time,’ she said.
‘We had characters going around especially to entertain the children.
‘I think for me the best thing about the day was watching our tap dancers going around entertaining everyone.
‘They went around all over the place and just seemed to make everybody smile.
‘You can’t watch 10 people go tap dancing past you and not smile I don’t think.
‘It is quite a lot of hard work to organise.’
Six of the races on the day were named after newspapers in the JP group.
But the action wasn’t limited to the racecourse, with a number of events and games keeping children happy. After watching the races, visitors made the most of their fun day out with a carousel, a maze and a circus workshop.
