A STREET in Germany has been named after Waterlooville.

People in Henstedt-Ulzburg, near Hamburg, dedicated a new road – Waterloovillestrasse – to their English twin town.

Glynnis Simcox, chairwoman of Waterlooville Area Twinning Association, said: ‘I was delighted to be present when Henstedt-Ulzburg Council named a new street to commemorate its twinning link with us.

‘It follows on from the Europe Day at Cowplain school last May when young people from five towns in four countries joined together for a day of sports and cultural activities.

‘We are a family-orientated organisation that seeks to share experiences across European countries.’

A slight tweak of the sign was needed at the naming ceremony.

Mrs Simcox added: ‘As you can see from the photograph, the naming ceremony was not without mishap and we were impressed by the informality of the civic dignitaries in putting matters right.’
