FUNDRAISERS are on target to raise more than £6,000 to help farmers and fishermen in Sierra Leone.

The Fareham and Portchester Christian Aid branch has been busy taking part in events in aid of the poverty-stricken African country, which has been the focus of Christian Aid Week 2012.

Supporters took part in a sponsored walk in Holly Hill Woodland Park in Sarisbury and they had a stall in Fareham Shopping Centre which collected donations of £422.59.

Committee member Madeleine Brand said: ‘We were blessed with lovely weather for the walk, the gardens are very pretty.

‘The walkers hope they have raised £500 but some of the sponsored sheets have yet to be returned. To date we have raised around £5,500 with promises of more donations to come.

‘The committee sends a big thank you to all the people who contributed in any way to this wonderful effort, which will make such a difference to the lives of the people of Sierra Leone.’
