FAREHAM Borough Council is asking its residents to take a more environmentally-friendly approach to how they dispose of their waste.

The council is encouraging people living in the Fareham area make an effort when recycling their waste.

There is the added incentive that if the area manages to recycle more efficiently, every household will be entered into a draw, with the chance to win a family hamper in time for Christmas.

Waste disposal companies are finding that people are still putting a lot of recyclable goods in their general waste bins, when it could be reused.

The council has introduced a four-step pledge that it wants all household to follow.

It is looking to homeowners to recycle from every room in the house, not put plastic bags in recycling bins, consider the amount of food they are wasting and go the extra mile when recycling.

Councillor Tiffany Harper who is leading the scheme said: ‘I encourage everyone to get involved with this to reduce household waste and support our environment.’
