Fareham family sets up online charity fundraiser after son loses fight with epilepsy

Peter Palmer, also known as ‘PP’, 28, who had suffered from epilepsy since the age of two, passed away last Sunday night on July 24, from what his family believe was the effect of experiencing multiple seizures.

Peter, who also had Asperger’s syndrome, worked on the tills at Sainsbury’s in Broadcut, Fareham for around ten years and was a well-known figure in the shop and around the town.

His family have now set up a fundraising page online to pay tribute to Peter and in order to raise funds for charity The Epilepsy Society, who supported Peter throughout his life and Love4Life, a dating group for people with disabilities run by disability charity FitzRoy that he had become a part of.

In the space of two days, the family have raised £3,128.

Ben Domican, Peter’s brother-in-law, from Whiteley said: ‘PP was such a nice guy. He was well known by everyone at Sainsbury’s and really touched a lot of people during his time there.

‘His passing was so sudden as he was so young and besides his conditions, was not unwell, so it was a real shock to the system.

‘The thing about PP is that he would talk to anyone, no matter who you were, he looked for the best in people.’

Peter’s sister, Emmeline Domican had signed him up to Love4Life in order to boost his confidence when talking to strangers.

She said: ‘Reluctantly he went along to the first group meeting and has made a huge group of friends ever since, been on a couple of dates but most importantly developed the best social life he ever had!

‘This made such a huge difference to him that we felt it was so important to show our appreciation!’

Peter was also a big lover of Portsmouth FC, films and music, harbouring ‘quite an extensive’ film collection in his bedroom.

A lily was put on his desk at Sainsbury’s to pay memory to Peter after his work colleagues heard of his passing on Sunday afternoon.

Emmeline added: ‘I truly hope you donate so that in memory of my extraordinary brother PP we can improve the lives of others.’
