A FAREHAM woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out in a hospital ward.

The fire in a mental health unit at Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton needed 40 firefighters to tackle it and left one person requiring hospital treatment, according to Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters were called to the hospital at 7.11pm on Wednesday.

Hampshire Constabulary has since arrested a 36-year-old woman from Fareham on suspicion of arson.

The woman has been bailed until May 8.
