The females had enjoyed a night out when they got trapped between the third and fourth floor in the Greetham Street complex at 12.20am.

Two fire engines from Southsea were sent to free the revellers - who were said to be ‘happy’ and considered popping back out for a dance after getting help.

Southsea watch manager Jamie Wren said: ‘We opened the lift and got them out. We have got keys that open the doors.

‘So we used them and led them down to safety.

‘Once we freed them at 12.45am, the first thing they asked each other was whether there was still time to go to the club. So they were happy.’
