A GUERNSEY-BOUND ferry was forced to turn around after a small fire broke on board.

The 9am Portsmouth to Guernsey sailing of the Commodore Clipper was forced to cancel its trip yesterday.

A fire started in the engine system of the vessel at 1.20pm. Staff on board put the fire out.

The ferry, which is run by Condor Ferries, was forced to turn around and head back to Portsmouth.

It arrived at the International Ferry Port at 6.20pm.

All 220 passengers were uninjured.
