FAMILIES can start the Christmas holidays with a free festive event at Southsea Castle.

This Saturday, Portsmouth City Council and businesses based at the attraction are inviting people to enjoy food, drink, gifts and craft activities.

Starting at 3pm, the event is raising cash for Crisis for Christmas which helps the homeless.

The Southsea Community Choir will lead carol singing from 5.30pm with jazz music after.

Cllr Linda Symes, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: ‘It’s a great way to start Christmas. It’s free to get in, and it’s for a great cause.’
