Tammy Kent, founder of Tammy’s One Stop Party Shop, puts the spotlight on the excellent events run by two Gosport churches
The two churches put on lots of events including a children’s cinema experience evening, which took place last weekend.
An audience of 40 children enjoyed the event where Despicable Me was shown.
They also enjoyed chocolates, popcorn, drinks and hotdogs. The parents all sat glued to the screen, munching their snacks as well.
Church warden Steven Smart, 34, said: ‘We try to give people the opportunity to have a cinema experience at a fraction of the cost of going to a mainstream cinema.’
While the children were watching the film, Steven was cutting out poppies for the Remembrance Sunday service at St Thomas’s with Reverend Karen Mitchell and Angela Simpson.
Angela, 32, said: ‘We love it here. There is always something going on.
‘The film nights are great for parents without much money but also for the children. We have children with dyspraxia, ADHD and autism. It’s such a great atmosphere. They can be relaxed and not worry about being shushed or shamed.’
Rev Mitchell has been vicar of the two churches for nearly three years.
Rev Mitchell said: ‘It’s all about the community for me, young or old and any colour or creed are very welcome here. We are trying to reach out to the community to come together we don’t mind who you are Christian or not.
‘We are happy to open our doors to anyone. We have a sale day here at St Matthews on November 21 in aid of the Alicia Pannell Fund.
‘Our own Christmas fair day is on Saturday, November 14. It is free entry and as usual everyone is very welcome.’
On Sunday, November 22 the team at St Matthews will be opening their doors once again for ‘Messy Church’.
At this activity day children can crafts based on the Nativity as well as enjoying a meal and hearing the Nativity story.
There is no charge for this but a donation is very welcome.
Both churches have a selection of services throughout the week including their main weekly service which takes place on Sunday at 10am.
