A PIANO teacher in Gosport donated more than £250 to a sailing charity.

Helen Morris raised cash for Ocean Youth Trust South at a concert held at United Reform Church in Bury Road, Gosport, on Tuesday.

She performed pieces by Hadyn, Chopin, Scarlatti and others to an audience of around 70 people.

Afterwards the music-lovers were invited to stay for refreshments and to find out more about the charity.

The charity uses sailing adventures as a personal development opportunity for 12 to 25 year olds and sets sail with around 450 young people each year.

Most of the young sailors will come from disadvantaged or vulnerable backgrounds.

Helen’s fundraising is enough to pay for a week of activities aboard OYT South’s specially adapted boat for one young person.

Onboard the purpose-built big red ketch, John , the youngsters have to do everything from planning the voyage, steering and hoisting sails to cooking meals.
