DOZENS of firefighters spent last night tackling a huge blaze at a battery recycling centre.
Crews from Fareham were sent to help with the fire at Loddon Recycling in Lasham, near Basingstoke.
Around 75 firefighters from across the county helped battle the blaze and stop it from spreading to other factories nearby.
Officer in charge Steve Trevethick said: ‘The fire developed extremely fast with huge intensity, ripping through the building and setting nearby vehicles alight.
‘On arrival crews assisted in the evacuation of employees.
‘A dozen private residences were also evacuated as a precaution and other occupants were advised to stay indoors with their doors and windows closed.’
No-one is thought to have been injured and an investigation is taking place to determine what started the fire.
