TEN firefighters battled a blaze at Portsmouth Recycling Centre last night.

What had been reported as a small fire at the centre in Port Solent turned into a blaze spanning two large skips. Firefighters stopped it before it spread to a third.

A call to the emergency services was made at 7.06pm, with officers from Southsea, Cosham and Fareham eventually called in to help battle the fire for around an hour.

The cause of the fire is not known, but the centre had closed to the public shortly before emergency services were called.
