TRAFFIC is slow on part of the M27 after a vehicle fire this morning.

A fire started in the back of a maroon Ford Focus at 7.30am.

The female driver of the car had been travelling between junction 12 Portsmouth and junction 11 Fareham on the west bound carriageway when she spotted smoke coming from the back seat.

One fire crew from Cosham was called to the scene.

Watch manager Steve Pearce said: ‘There was a Ford Focus on the M27 between junction 12 and 11 west bound.

‘A woman could see smoke coming from the rear of the passenger seat.

‘It was an electrical cable and it had shorted out, causing a small fire.

‘It had started to spread to the rear of the seat.

‘It wasn’t too serious, we left the scene at 7.50am.’

Hampshire Constabulary said there was a partial road block put in place while the car was moved on to the hard shoulder.

It is now awaiting recovery.

No one was injured.
