AMBULANCE crews were helped by firefighters to respond to a medical emergency involving a pensioner.

Paramedics could not get into the home in Braxell Lawn in Leigh Park because the resident, an 86-year-old woman, had collapsed in front of the front door yesterday afternoon.

One firefighter from Havant Fire Station climbed up a 9ft ladder to get into the third-floor property via a window, which had been left slightly opened by the resident.
