Fire service share images of vehicle '˜destroyed' by fire on A27

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have shared images of a car destroyed by fire which caused delays on the A27.

The images were posted on the service’s Twitter account and show the extent of the damage.

The fire happened on the A27 Tangmere Roundabout near Chichester and spread to a nearby bike shed, fence and tree before the blaze was extinguished by fire crews.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue said that the car and bike shed were ‘100 per cent destroyed’ by the blaze, as the pictures show.

The tree was also destroyed by the blaze, as was 70 per cent of the fence.

Fire crews were called at 4.48pm on Monday and police were also called to assist, with five vehicles at the scene and surrounding area.

Part the A27 was closed on the eastbound route between Portfield Roundabout and the junction with the A285. The road has since been re-opened. Westbound traffic was also affected.

Police said there were no reported injuries.
