FIREFIGHTERS were called out after someone set fire to the inside of a post box in Portsmouth.

Crews from Southsea were called to the junction of Jervis Road and Widley Road, Stamshaw, at around 5.25pm last night.

Firefighters believe someone had sprayed a substance containing alcohol inside the box before setting fire to it.

It is not known whether there were any letters inside.

Crews were there for twenty minutes whilst they put out the flames with a hose. Firefighter Rikki Noble said: ‘We do not think this was a genuine accident.’
