Firefighters raise thousands on 13-mile ladder hike

DETERMINED firefighters have raised thousands of pounds on a 13-mile hike in full kit carrying an 80kg ladder.

Craig Sadler, watch manager for white watch at Cosham fire station, said the 40 walkers got huge support after leaving Horndean station at 10am on Saturday. They finished six hours later at Gunwharf Quays.

He said: ‘Loads of people were supporting us and were very generous.

‘It was tough in full fire kit and breathing apparatus over that sort of distance but we like challenges.’

An incredidle £4,788 was raised after teams of six carried the 10.5-metre ladder.

The huge sum will be split equally between The Firefighters Charity and Football For Cancer.
