THREE rounds of strikes will be held by firefighters this weekend.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced three dates and time periods for industrial action regarding a national, ongoing pension dispute.

Strikes are planned to take place on Friday between midday and 5pm; Saturday between 2pm and 2am; Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: ‘After three years of negotiations and an intense four months presenting an indisputable, evidence-based case for the need to ensure a pension scheme that takes into account the unique occupation of firefighting, the government is still burying its head in the sand.’

Hampshire Fire and Rescue service has said calls will be answered and emergencies will be responded to.

A spokesman said: ‘If you have an emergency dial 999 and we will we send an emergency response, but our level of response will be limited and may take longer than usual.

‘Our response will focus on the highest risks to life.’
