FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a house still under construction in West Wittering, West Sussex, overnight.

Crews from Hampshire and West Sussex were called to the incident at a detached residential dwelling off Berry Barn Lane near East Strand at 10.50pm last night.

A total of 12 fire engines – two from Chichester, and one from Wittering, Selsey, Bognor, Littlehampton, Arundel, Havant and Worthing – were sent to the scene.

The fire was tackled using 12 sets of breathing apparatus and four jets.

One crew is still at the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
