FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a girl who became trapped high in the branches of a tall tree.

A fire engine from Cosham arrived at Foxes Forest, in Hilsea, Portsmouth, on Saturday at 6.10pm.

They were responding to reports a 15-year-old girl had thrown her shoe into a tree as a joke and then climbed up to try and retrieve it – but became stuck in the process.

Firefighters used a ladder and ropes to rescue the girl who they described as embarrassed but unhurt.

Crew manager Wayne Gobel said: ‘Our advice to anyone thinking about climbing high into trees like this would be don’t.

‘It can be impossible to know how easy it will be to climb down after you have climbed up and could cause a serious accident if someone should slip or fall. It is just not worth the risk.’
