COSHAM firefighters were called out to deal with two car fires last night.

One crew was sent to Knowsley Road, in Cosham, at around 12.30am and spent an hour tackling a blaze in a small car.

The same team was later dispatched to Havant Road, in Farlington, near the Sunshine Pub at around 3.30am to put out a second fire in a similar vehicle.

Firefighters spent more than two hours dealing with this fire because it has also caused gas to leak from a nearby house.

Gas safety specialists quickly arrived and made the area safe.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the police are investigating whether the two fires had been started deliberately or could be linked.
