Firings to honour the Waterloo dead at Fort Nelson
A MUSEUM is to commemorate the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo with gun firings on Sunday.
The Royal Armouries Museum at Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill Road will see uniformed detachments from living history groups Ubique Right of the Line and HMS Loire carry out the firings of two Napoleonic six-pounder guns at 11.30am, 2pm and 3pm.
The Battle of Waterloo saw the Duke of Wellington halt the advance of Napoleon in a rain-sodden field in Belgium on June 18, 1815 with just less than 50,000 men killed.
Entry to the museum is free.
