Portsmouth Guide Dogs fundraising and support group’s first charity ball raised more than £4,700.

The event at the Royal Beach hotel attracted 95 people, including the deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and the deputy lady mayoress.

Meridian sports presenter Sarah Gomme helped auction off items and there was also a raffle with some great prizes, ranging from a butchery lesson at Buckwells in Southsea to a flying lesson.

A secret auction of a cake donated by a Brighton-based company went for £200.

Portsmouth Guide Dogs has thanked everyone for their generosity in raising the amount, especially as it was the first time the event was held.
