THE Commonwealth flag will be raised simultaneously to fly over the area next week.

Councils including those in Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant will take part in an international event during which the Commonwealth flag will be hoisted at 10am on Monday, March 10.

Fareham’s flag will be raised at the flagpoles in West Street by the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Susan Bayford.

‘I am delighted to be representing Fareham in its participation in this great event,’ she said.

Organiser Bruno Peek said: ‘This will be the largest single raising of the Commonwealth Flag in the history of the Commonwealth.’

March 10 is Commonwealth Day. To raise awareness of the day, an map has been created showing where the events are taking place. See esriuk.com/flyaflagmap.
