Judges at the British Food Fortnight 2016 Competition said the town, which won the contest in 2014, had expanded its British Food Fortnight enormously in the past few years, and was upheld as a benchmark for other communities to follow.

The Emsworth British Food Fortnight is run by the Emsworth Business Association.

The competition is described as ‘an opportunity to bring people together to celebrate fresh, seasonal, local produce, and for communities to have a lot of fun’.

Bath was named the winner, as voted by: Andrea Leadsom MP, Secretary of State for environment, food and rural affairs; Breige Donaghy, director of Delicious Food and Co-op Food, chef Raymond Blanc, OBE; and Alexia Robinson, founder of Love British Food.

Lead judge Mr Blanc said: ‘The entries were amazing and reading each story makes me very proud to be involved in British Food Fortnight.

‘Each shows the same objective – to celebrate food.’

Emsworth has now been in the top three for the past three years, after coming second to Peterborough in 2014.
