PORTSMOUTH'S iconic HMS Victory was the perfect backdrop for Royal Navy veterans as they presented an armed forces charity with £2,100.

The cash was raised for SSAFA and was presented by the charity’s former chairman, Sir Robin Ross. The money was raised during this year’s Fun in the Field event – a weekend social in Wiltshire for armed forces personnel, past and present.

Navy veteran Al Quartermain, of Clanfield, staged the day and said it helped soldiers in their battle of overcome post-traumatic stress disorder.

‘One chap from the army, who had been suffering from PTSD for many years, said one night at Fun in the Field had done more than any counsellor ever could,’ he said.

The next event is from August 25 to August 28 next year.
