Foreign sailors take command of Portsmouth's HMS Tyne for the first time

FOREIGN sailors have been taking the controls of a Portsmouth-based warship for the first time.

HMS Tyne gave nine junior officers from navies around the world the chance to command the 1,800-tonne warship in a series of testing exercises.

The students were put through their paces on the course – run by HMS Collingwood – tackling everything from fires and dealing with breakdowns, to SOS calls and navigating busy waters.
