Defence secretary Michael Fallon made the comments during a visit to the islands, where he revealed the MoD would spend some £180m on the islands’ defences.

He was referring to Mr Corbyn’s recent suggestion the UK and Argentina should discuss the future of the islands. However, Labour have brushed off the remarks, branding them ‘silly’ and stressing Mr Corbyn was committed to ‘self-determination’ for the islands.
