FORT Nelson will ring to the sound of a 64-pounder gun as people get the opportunity to explore the Victorian fortress at night time.

This Friday, the fort near Fareham will open to the public from 6pm.

People can meet uniformed gunners, watch gun firings, and hear storytelling tours.

The event forms part of Museums at Night, the annual, after-hours celebration when hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites open their doors across the UK.

Admission costs £3 for adults, £2 for children – with a family ticket costing £8 (up to three children).

Meanwhile, the Explosion! Museum in Gosport will host a sleepover for families to take part in. It costs £12.50 per child and accompanying adults go free. Call (023) 9250 5600.
