POLICE have caught the fourth and final suspected immigrant of a group who tried to make a bid for freedom by running down the motorway.

The drama brought the M27 to a standstill yesterday lunch time when the four youths fled from the back of the lorry they had been hiding in.

The alarm was raised after a motorist spotted an arm in the back of an articulated lorry and noticed that its covers had been slashed.

Police arrived at the scene, Power Technique Ltd in Concorde Close, Segensworth, but as they arrived four people were spotted fleeing from the back of the lorry.

As they ran on to the M27 close to junction nine police were forced to put a rolling roadblock in place for more than an hour.

Three of the group were captured quickly, with the fourth being captured in the area later yesterday afternoon.

The lorry may have travelled from Italy to the UK.

A 15-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys, all believed to be from south-east Asia have all been arrested on suspicion of committing immigration offences.

They are expected to all be held in police custody without bail.
