Free day-out for family will help buy new playgrounds

FUNDS to help improve play equipment for children will be raised at a family fun day.

People are being invited to Hayling Island Community Centre for a day of fun to support the Play Parks for Hayling scheme.

Islanders are hoping to raise £80,000 to replace run-down equipment with modern playgrounds.

The community day has been organised by The Southern Co-operative store in Elm Grove, Hayling Island, which is hoping to raise £25,000 towards the initiative.

The free event includes a barbecue, bouncy castle, face painting, a football competition, and a tombola.

Havant’s Mayor elect Leah Turner, the driving force behind Play Parks for Hayling, said: ‘It is with great pleasure that I will be attending the free family fun day to celebrate the Play Park scheme.

‘Our project is for the children of Hayling Island and it seems very apt that our local The Southern Co-operative store in Elm Grove is supporting our endeavours.

‘We hope Hayling residents will support the store and therefore our project.’

The event takes place from 12pm to 3pm on May 16.

Pete Raynor, retail business manger, said: ‘Our store is a long-standing business on Hayling Island and we’re proud of our reputation for supporting good causes.’
