Free festive event is a first for the city centre

CHRISTMAS is coming early as a festive fair is to be held in Portsmouth this weekend.

Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square will be sprinkled with snowflakes during the free Christmas festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

The Christmas in the Square festival will include a festive market, live music, food, a craft workshop, family entertainment and street performers.

From 1pm on Sunday, families will get the chance to ‘freeze’ the square by chalking snowflakes on the ground.

The event, run by Portsmouth City Council and local events organiser The Village Popup, is a first for Guildhall Square.

The market runs from 10am to 5pm on both days, with local, independent traders selling everything from hot food and mulled wine to Christmas gifts, vintage clothing, jewellery and more.

There will be live music and entertainment from 11am to 4.45pm on both days.
