THE oldest tea dance in Portsmouth is hoping to attract new members by holding a free taster session when it returns next month.

The dance has been going for 39 years and takes place for 10 months of the year every Wednesday afternoon at the Royal Beach Hotel, in Southsea.

It is holding its first session of the season on Wednesday, September 7 from 1pm to 4pm.

Organiser Pat Andrews, 70, from Southsea, said: ‘Everybody will be able to get in on that day for free.

‘We are hoping to attract some new members. Everyone is welcome, there will be all kinds of dances. It’s probably the oldest tea dance in town.’

Music at the event will be provided by Steve Kingsley. For more call (023) 9273 1281. Entrance is normally £4.
