The Box gym in Portsmouth hosted the event, which saw around 40 people complete squats, pull-ups and weight-lifting.

Colleague and close friend of Sabrina’s, Kelly Long organised the fundraiser and, working with The Box owner Carl Marsh, the pair used her date of birth (27/1/1989) as inspiration for the exercises.

The group did 27 weight lifts, jumps across one length of the gym, 19 pull-ups and 89 squats.

Kelly, who works at Age UK Portsmouth, said: ‘This is going to become an annual event know, which is amazing. It’s exciting that we can do this as an anniversary event.

‘The circuit was extremely challenging but it was good. There was a great atmosphere and it felt good doing it for Sabrina.’

Sabrina, from Gosport, was a member at the gym before she died in a car crash in Bodmin in Cornwall on Boxing Day.

Carl said his crossfit gym in Commercial Road was like a community and it was good they could come together for Sabrina.

‘Crossfit is very community-based,’ he said.

‘Everyone here is friendly and there is a real community feel about the gym.

‘We have just over 100 members and they all know each other.

‘When something happens, we always try to do community events – whether it is because of something good or bad.

‘We always try to help and when something happens to a member, everyone knows about it.’

Sabrina’s husband Dominic also organised a charity event with his colleagues on Thorney Island last Thursday. They raised around £1,800 also through a similar circuit challenge, where the more money a person donated, the easier the circuit was for them.

So far, £8,696 has been raised from the charity events and a crowdfunding page on Just Giving.

Kelly added: ‘It’s so overwhelming to still see that number going up.

‘I never thought so much would be raised for Sabrina’s family.’

The money will go to Sabrina’s husband Dominic and their three-year-old daughter Elsie.
