SIX friends have cycled 140 miles in tribute to their friend who died of bowel cancer.

The group took part in the Cycle4Sam challenge over two days in memory of Sam Robinson who died in January 2009.

They raised more than £2,000 for Tenovus, which had supported Sam during his illness.

On their route they took in the various places they have lived, Bognor, Chichester, Petersfield, Andover, Southampton, Portsmouth and Bishop’s Waltham.

They finished at Soberton, where Sam grew up and is now buried. Former Southampton player Francis Benali, who had joined a previous fundraiser with the boys, joined them at the finish line to lend support.

The group will now start planning their next fund-raising adventure.

Team member Jon Randall said: ‘It was a big challenge for us all, but it is so important to raise money for such a worthwhile cause and to remember our amazing friend Sam, who truly was a legend.’
