Generous donation to Rowans Hospice

A Portsmouth firm of chartered surveyors has presented the £6,000 proceeds from its record-breaking charity golf day.

Directors from Hampshire-based McAndrew Martin donated the money to Rowans Hospice at the firm’s annual summer garden party.

The 33-strong business also raised another £500 at the event with a bumper raffle as part of its commitment to raise a total of £10,000 for the charity to refurbish one of 19 specialist in-patient rooms.Managing director Bill McAndrew said: ‘As a national firm with its roots in Hampshire we wanted to give something back to the local community.‘Rowans Hospice is an incredibly worthwhile charity which helps patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families when they need it most.‘As a firm we have raised nearly £20,000 for good causes over the past five years, including the £6,000 raised at our best-ever charity golf day in April.‘Our thanks go to everyone who has helped us raised such a tremendous amount. Presenting the cheque at our summer garden party really was the icing on the cake.’

McAndrew Martin, which has its headquarters at the Fairway Business Centre in Portsmouth, held its charity golf day at Waterlooville Golf Club in April, with nearly 100 players taking part.Rowans Hospice at Purbrook, near Portsmouth, needs to raise £5m a year to provide its care services for people with life-limiting illnesses in south east Hampshire.

Corporate and events fundraiser Eliza Dunn said: ‘We are so grateful for the continuing support from everyone at McAndrew Martin and their commitment to raise £10,000 to refurbish one of our 19 in-patient rooms.‘For people affected by life-limiting illnesses, Rowans Hospice offers a calm environment with a friendly team and specialist equipment suited to their needs.’
