Get involved, go online in Havant

Government sells off HMS Ocean for £84m

Residents can use a new online petition to make their voices heard.

Havant Borough Council has launched an additional page on its website to encourage residents to take a more active role in decisions which shape their neighbourhood.

The council already welcomes petitions from residents but the government has asked all councils to give the public the opportunity to take part online which is easier and less time consuming than gathering signatures on the streets.

Councillor Michael Cheshire, responsible for corporate services, said: 'This is an easy, simple online facility with clear instructions.

'Residents will be able to start their own petitions and email friends and neighbours with the link to inform and encourage more people to sign up.

'We are excited to see how many people will take advantage of this new system and are interested in seeing the petitions submitted in this way.'
