Plans have been announced for the first Isle of Wight Day.

It’s the brainchild of Robin Courage, the new high sheriff of the Island.

He has called the event on Saturday, September 24, when he hopes people across the Isle of Wight will celebrate the Island as they raise cash for local charities.

He said: ‘Like everyone who lives on this idyllic island, I adore this place and am incredibly proud to be an Islander. But what makes this place so special is the disparate community of talented and interesting souls.

‘Being so disparate, we rarely come together as one and this is what I would like to change. On this day, I hope that the people of the Island will all celebrate together.’
