FIRE crews were called to a gorse fire at Browndown, in Gosport, at around 8pm on Tuesday evening.

A passer-by dialled 999 and two crews from Gosport fire station were sent to tackle the fire, which had taken hold of a small area of land.

Watch manager Tim Harrison said: ‘It wasn’t a large fire, but it had the potential to spread if we hadn’t been called out.’

It is not known what caused the fire.
